Title One Math Teacher

I am from Northeast Texas and moved to the Columbus area 4 years ago when my daughter’s husband transferred up here for his job. My family is my life. I have 2 married daughters, 4 beautiful perfect grandsons (I’m not biased at all) and the cutest blonde terrier named Sunny. Teaching math has been my career since 1991. Within that time, I have taught all grades 1 – 12 as a classroom teacher. In 2008, I received my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction for Mathematics. I love teaching children and cannot imagine doing any other job. I chose teaching as my career path when I was very young. I truly believe it was a calling from God. I love children and seeing them get excited when they discover that they can be successful, which is the BEST feeling for me! Working at CATA has been a real blessing. I have worked at many different schools, but the staff here has been the best ever, even when new teachers join us. The reason is because we have a true family atmosphere. The students know it doesn’t matter what grade the teacher teaches or the student attends, everyone in the building is here to help. All the adults in the building look at all the children as their own, TK – 12, which gives our students the feeling of belonging, being loved, and truly valued. My ultimate goal as an educator is to show that learning isn’t about knowing or remembering everything, but “knowing where to go to find the answers,” as Albert Einstein said. My other goal is that making mistakes is OK like Thomas Edison showed from his many attempts to create the lightbulb, because that’s how we learn. If they learn those two things, they will be lifelong learners.
