Dear Parent/Guardian,
Help your child succeed in school. Sign up for free tutoring! As a result of the
federal No Child Left Behind Act, your child can receive extra help
in the areas of math and/or reading. You can receive this free tutoring because your child’s school is in its third year of “Continuous Improvement.”
While CATA has continued to make significant academic gains and has met “Value Added,” we are still identified for improvement year 3 (delay). As a result of our status, we are mandated to offer our families free tutoring. Therefore, you can choose a free tutoring program that is best for your child. A list of approved tutoring programs in your area can be viewed at:
These programs have been approved by the state department of education and will provide your child with tutoring that is coordinated with the school. In addition to these tutoring programs, CATA will also offer after school tutoring as well. Details about our after school tutoring program will be sent home in the very near future. If you would like assistance in choosing a tutoring program that would be in the best interest of your child, please contact Abigail Torsell at 614-577-0900; Ext: 100.
For additional help in choosing a provider, please join us at Columbus Arts and Technology Academy on,   October 30, 2011 for our Provider Fair. Funds for tutoring are limited, so please remember that students with the greatest academic need will be offered this service on a first come, first serve basis.
When deciding which tutoring program is best for your child, you may want to consider the following:
>     When and where will the tutoring take place (at school, home, or a community center)?
>    How often and for how many hours in total will your child be tutored?
>    What programs, by grade levels and subject areas, are available for your child?
>    What type of instruction will the tutor use: small group, one-on-one, or the computer?
>     What are the tutors’ qualifications?
>     Can the tutor help if your child has a disability or is a Limited English Learner?
>     Is transportation available to and from where the tutoring will take place?
Further information can be found on the OHIOPIRC parent information and resource website.
Applications for the free tutoring are due by October 30, 2011. You will be notified by letter if your child qualifies for the tutoring program. Additionally, you will receive a letter from the Columbus Arts and Technology Academy in the upcoming weeks telling you exactly when the free tutoring will start.
Finally, if you do not wish to sign up for these services, you may also choose to transfer your child to another school in the district and refer to our website
regarding school choices in our district.
Thank you,
